A contemporary workplace shaped by heritage, material and pattern.

St Ann’s House in central Manchester has been reimagined by OBI, transforming three floors of the historic building into a contemporary workplace that draws on its architectural character and subtle Art Deco influences. The refurbishment introduces a new reception, lounge, meeting spaces and wellness facilities, bringing together original architectural details and a carefully considered palette of materials.

In the reception, 150m² of wood-effect porcelain flooring introduces the warmth and character of timber, with the durability required for a busy commercial environment. Its natural tones provide a quiet foundation for the more expressive architectural details.

A defining feature is the refurbished circular staircase, where our Meridian Spin follows the curve of the structure. The geometric pattern introduces rhythm and movement, accentuating the staircase's sculptural form. The same material wraps around the nearby coffee counter, creating a visual connection between the two architectural elements. Designed by Lindsay Lang in collaboration with Domus, Meridian is an exclusive collection that brings a distinctive graphic quality to the space.

Elsewhere in the reception, Mutina Celosia introduces another layer of texture. Three-dimensional terracotta blocks form a sculptural backdrop to the waiting area, creating depth while retaining a sense of openness.

In contrast, the bathrooms take a more restrained approach. Land 2.0, with its understated grey tones, provides a calm, practical surface that complements the more expressive finishes elsewhere in the building.

Together, the materials establish a distinct visual language across St Ann’s House, balancing pattern, texture and colour with the character of the original architecture.

London-based designer Lindsey Lang is known for her distinctive approach to colour, pattern and geometry. With a background in fine art, textiles and graphic design, her work explores the relationship between shape, repetition and material. Developed in collaboration with Domus, the Meridian collection brings this graphic language into porcelain tile, creating playful compositions that introduce rhythm and movement to architectural spaces. The collection is available exclusively through Domus.
