Trend 26/27 New Nostalgia
Design in 2026-27 is shaped by three parallel trends that respond to our evolving cultural needs. These trends reflect a shift away from generic minimalism toward design that values material substance, narrative depth, and emotional resonance – surfaces that anchor spaces, stage scenes, and express personal identity. They signal deeper cultural recalibrations and point toward a future where surface design plays an increasingly central role in shaping how spaces are felt, remembered, and valued.

New Nostalgia
New Nostalgia is more a mindset than a style. In our digital age, nostalgia becomes meaningful and relevant, blending memories, playfulness, and pop culture into spaces that reflect values like sustainability, diversity, and self-expression. This trend is built on two main ideas: reintroducing play and collectability, and reviving design history as a living, evolving language rather than a static reference to the past.

This trend returns to Postmodernism's passion for symbols, colour, and storytelling, leaving behind modernist restraint. Interiors become expressive canvases that show optimism, personality, and meaning - joyful reflections full of character and cultural references.

Colours are bright and joyful, with primary shades, digital brights, Postmodern pastels, and bold contrasts that define zones and guide the eye. Patterns are fun and bold, like pixel grids, large repeats, and strong geometric shapes. Layouts use modular designs with stackable shapes, borders, and mix-and-match styles, making tiling a key design feature.
