Showcasing the rich history & exceptional sustainability credentials of Suber Cork Material Matters 2025
Thank you to everyone who visited us at Material Matters 2025
This year, Material Matters returned for its fourth edition, featuring over fifty brands, designers, makers, and manufacturers committed to sustainability and material innovation. The exhibition took place at Space House, an iconic brutalist landmark in London, with bespoke mosaic supplied by Domus featured on its staircases.
Alongside its exhibitor showcase, tp bennett and The Furniture Practice curated an exhibition titled "In The Making", exploring the true costs of producing. Shining a light on three essential themes — Land, Water, and Atmosphere — the exhibition examined the intricate relationships between materials, geography, people, and supply chains in the commercial world.

The exhibition showcased our Suber Cork range as part of "Land", highlighting its rich history and exceptional sustainability credentials.
Used as early as 1300 BC, cork remains one of the most sustainable materials in design today. To harvest cork, no trees are cut down; instead, the bark is carefully harvested by hand, allowing the tree to regenerate and absorb even more carbon dioxide in the process.
In addition, cork is naturally thermal and VOC-free; qualities that, combined with its tactile grain and gentle softness underfoot, make it an ideal material for contemporary flooring applications.

As part of the fair's talk series, Domus Sales Director Jules Archard contributed to a thoughtful conversation moderated by Oli Stratford, Editor-in-Chief of Disegno, on why land use matters and how design can rebuild our connection to the earth. As part of the discussion, Jules highlighted cork as a sustainable material with the potential to shape the future of design.

Produced using natural cork, a climate-positive material with a carbon-negative footprint — it is widely acknowledged as one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. Harvested every nine years, the Portuguese cork oak trees live up to 200 years, continuing to yield this sustainable resource.
