Domus Wood WDOP 012 (Downing Hare) Parquet 70 (Herringbone)
Architect Matthew Wood, founder of MW Architects, added a small, beautifully designed 7sqm ground floor extension to the Peckham home where he lives with his family.
The design vastly improves the downstairs layout, adding a new kitchen-diner family room to the back of the house which leads off the galley kitchen and opens up into the garden. With a long view through the downstairs rooms to the garden and floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors, the design maximises the feeling of space.
A smart but organic feel
Matthew specified Domus Wood parquet herringbone flooring in a pale oak tone for the entire ground floor of his home running through into the extension, chosen to contrast with darker materials and an accent blue colour used on walls and surfaces. The herringbone pattern is continued outside on the patio in dark herringbone brickwork. The mix of tones and materials are carefully balanced throughout, creating a smart but organic feel.
